Yellowstone fans were devastated when it was announced that Kevin Costner was causing issues with the production of the show. The actor, who plays John Dutton on the series, was rumored to want off the series. Eventually, the show announced that the second half of Season 5 would be the last. Of course, viewers were surprised and saddened by the news. However, the Yellowstone universe continues to grow, and spin-offs continue to move forward. That being said, it seems that the franchise may have found an interesting replacement for Costner.
Although no one can replace Costner as John Dutton, the franchise is said to be eyeing another big-name actor in Kurt Russell. Many fans may remember that Russell has experience with Westerns, much like Costner. He’s starred in multiple films in the genre, including fan-favorite Tombstone, where he portrayed Wyatt Earp. Russell and Costner have that in common, as the latter also played the famous lawman in a film, per Screen Rant.
Kurt Russell Could Offer Yellowstone The Star Power That Kevin Costner Leaves Behind
Yellowstone may have a history of casting famous Western actors on the show, such as Sam Elliot in 1883. However, it’s not a requirement to be a leading man for the franchise. That being said, it seems that Kurt Russell would fit in nicely. However, it’s unclear which of the shows he may join. While Kevin Costner’s flagship series is coming to an end, there are plenty of spin-offs in the works.
In addition to Season 2 of 1923 returning in the future, a present-day spin-off is also said to be ahead. That show has reportedly tapped Matthew McConaughey as one of the stars. Another spin-off, 1944, is also said to be in the works. Meanwhile, a second present-day series set at the Texas ranch 6666’s has also been in development since 2022.
Other stars such as Demi Moore and Michelle Pfifer have also been rumored to be joining the franchise. However, little is currently known about the spin-offs. Meanwhile, fans continue to wait for the final episodes of Yellowstone Season 5 as news slowly trickles in about the plethora of spin-off shows also set in the Dutton family universe.
