The Hunger Games is getting another prequel book. The Suzanne Collins series, which revisited the world with A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, is coming back. The author will dive back into the story with Sunrise on the Reaping. The book will be set 24 years before the original series and focus on the 50th games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. Those games were won by Katniss and Peeta’s mentor, Haymitch Abernathy. The character was famously played by Woody Harrelson in the movie trilogy.

Hunger Games fans may remember details mentioned about Haymitch’s games as it was especially brutal. During that time, new rules were implemented for the anniversary of the games. Two boys and two girls were picked from each district for the Second Quarter Quell. Despite having 48 tributes, a young Haymitch won the games after he discovered a flaw in the arena’s system that allowed him to become victorious. Sadly, Haymitch was punished for his cleverness when the Capitol killed his close friends and family members, per ET.

“With Sunrise on the Reaping, I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, ‘the easiness with which the many are governed by the few,'” Suzanne Collins told the Associated Press. “The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question ‘Real or not real?’ seems more pressing to me every day.”

The new Hunger Games prequel book is set to be released in 2025. However, that’s not the only big news in the franchise. The book will become a movie soon after. The film is set for a 2026 release, and fans are so excited about the new developments.

“Suzanne Collins is a master storyteller and our creative north star,” Lionsgate chair Adam Fogelson said in a statement. “We couldn’t be more fortunate than to be guided and trusted by a collaborator whose talent and imagination are so consistently brilliant. We know Hunger Games fans worldwide will be spellbound by where Suzanne has focused this next extraordinary story. The Second Quarter Quell is legendary and looms large over the history of the Games, even into the time of Katniss Everdeen a quarter-century later. Like fans around the globe, we are eagerly anticipating this exciting return to Panem.”

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has quickly become one of the most highly anticipated books and movies. Fans are so excited to jump into Haymitch’s story and find out what really happened during the Second Quarter Quell.
