Practical Magic 2 is officially in the works. Warner Bros announced the highly anticipated movie sequel this week, and fans are going wild about the big news. The original film was released in 1998 and starred A-List actresses Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. The movie, adapted from the novel by Alice Hoffman, is still beloved by fans to this day. The film centered around the Owens family. Their magical bloodlines come with a curse, and despite their witch powers, they were faced with death and drama at every turn.
“It’s official… Practical Magic 2 is coming!” Warner Bros. captioned a TikTok video, which featured the song “Coconut,” which was featured during the iconic Midnight Margarita scene in the movie. “Me & the girls finding out that Practical Magic 2 is happening,” text on the video read, showing the original cast members dancing.
Practical Magic 2 Is The Sequel Fans Have Been Asking For
Since Practical Magic is getting a sequel, it seems that the movie could be based on one of Hoffman’s other books in the series. Two of the books are set before the events of the original film. However, another is set after, and focuses on Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock’s character’s aunt. In the film, the aunts Jett and Frances were portrayed by Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest.
It’s unclear if Bullock and Kidman will return to reprise their roles as Sally and Gillian Owens. However, fans would certainly love to see them back together on the big screen. The pair had great chemistry as sisters. If they could capture that again, fans would likely flock to the theater to watch the sequel.
“I love the movie. It’s different than the book. The movie always has to be different than a book because you’re in such a different medium. But I feel so lucky that all those truly great actresses are in one movie,” Alice Hoffman said about the original movie back in 2021. “The fact it’s about women and women’s relationships — at its core, it’s about a form of sisterhood — I think has made it more popular over the years. So, it’s kind of a cult movie. I feel really lucky to have been involved with it.”
In 2019, HBO Max announced that they were planning to develop as series based off the Practical Magic book, The Rules of Magic. However, the show didn’t pan out. Fans are still hopeful that the book will be adapted. Perhaps, if Practical Magic 2 is a hit, more movie sequels will come to fruition.
